How much do you know about the Fair PharmaCare Plan and how you can benefit from it?

The Fair PharmaCare Plan helps BC residents with the cost of eligible prescription drugs and specific medical supplies, whether or not you are covered under the Boilermakers Lodge No. 191 Benefit Plan.
The Fair PharmaCare Plan assists everyone, including those who need it most, based on family income.
Are you registered for Fair PharmaCare?
Go to: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/health-drug-coverage/pharmacare-for-bc-residents/who-we-cover/fair-pharmacare-plan

Once you are registered for Fair PharmaCare, it’s worth discussing with your doctor whether all of the drugs they are prescribing you and your family are actually Fair PharmaCare eligible drugs – because if they are not, they aren’t being applied to your family’s annual deductible. Once a family reaches their Fair PharmaCare family deductible, PharmaCare covers 70% of eligible costs until the family maximum is met. After meeting the family maximum, PharmaCare covers 100% of eligible costs.

This can be particularly helpful once you retire and your coverage under the Plan comes to an end. Have the conversation with your doctor and if any of the drugs they are prescribing are not eligible under Fair PharmaCare, inquire as to whether it is possible to change your prescription to a drug therapy that is, or whether they are able to make application to Fair PharmaCare under Special Authority, for drugs that your doctor feels cannot be switched. Every little bit helps!
